Summary of Vestry Meeting 14th March 2018 SUBJECT TO CONFIRMATION AT VESTRY MEETING IN JUNE
Church House roof The lead had been ordered. To comply with our insurance any metalwork should be marked with SmartWater. The Vestry approved the purchase of the materials for this. There is no record of a recent Quinquennial Inspection so Angela Dow had been asked to quote for doing one. The Vestry approved her quote.
Health and Safety Christine Carney presented a report to the Vestry on H&S issues. The hard wiring of both the chapel and the flat needed to be checked and certificated. There were many issues relating to fire safety which needed to be addressed and again these were required to comply with our insurance. The Vestry endorsed Christine’s recommendations and asked her to take things forward.
Treasurer presented the accounts.
Lay Rep Reported on Diocesan Synod which had been held on 10th March.
Friends of Gordon Chapel The number of subscriptions was down again this year making things financially difficult. As the Friends were using the Gordon Chapel charity number it was not clear they were a separate organisation. The Friends would discuss closer working with the chapel at their next meeting.
Fundraising The Gordonstoun concert was better attended than last year and Michael had invited the choir to sing Evensong on 28th October in Keith. The Lift Off concert was being publicised. The Military Wives Choir had asked questions about their concert on 5th May. Gillian was going to take this forward. Coffee mornings had been booked on 28th April at the Bellie and 27th October at the Institute. Gillian and Myra agreed to organise them. The pop up shop in Lossie had been booked for 14th – 25th May (Monday to Friday each week).
Traidcraft Easter eggs and cards had been selling well.
Worship –Confirmation would take place on 18th March at Christ Church Huntly with Philip being one of the candidates. A list of services for Holy Week and Easter had been circulated.
Lift update Larger plans of the lift were circulated for the Vestry to look at. They agreed that the project should be moved forward to apply for planning permission and building control. The Dean had said that a Canon 35 had already been approved so she only needed an up to date set of plans. The Secretary was asked to send these to her.
Away Day The date suggested for the Away Day was that chosen by the Diocese for a Safeguarding training which as many people as possible needed to attend. Michael would look into a date in early September for the Away Day.
Data Protection New legislation was coming into force on 25th May which we would have to comply with. Some guidance had been received from the Diocese and Gillian and Michael were working on what we needed to do. Gillian had booked to go to a training on 18th April.
A list of dates for future meetings of the Vestry was circulated.
The ‘Lift Off’ Concert will take place in Bellie Kirk this Friday 23 March at 7pm (doors open 6.30pm).
The performers will include: Take Note, Milne’s High School Fiddlers, The Rockset Community Choir and Milne’s High School Jazz Band.
Refreshments will be available.
Entry is by donation to the Gordon Chapel Lift Fund.
Do encourage all your friends to attend – it will be a super concert.
