EVENSONG 1 JAN 17 AT GORDON CHAPEL

It was thought that attendance at Evensong on New Years Day might be very low as people recovered from the Hogmanay Celebrations or were deterred by the poor weather.  So we were delighted that we had a good attendance and especially to  have Lynne & John from Burghead and Jacqueline and John from Keith join us together with our friends from Bellie Kirk and St Mary’s RC church in Fochabers.

The Chapel was full of light from candles, lanterns and the Christmas Tree and the Crib Scene completed a lovely setting for Evensong.

Unfortunately Gay (our regular organist for this service) could not be with us and so Jeff led the service and played the organ for the hymns and used a keyboard for the liturgical music.  This worked well until he missed out one of the hymns, causing a little confusion.

June (on holiday from Tarporley near Chester) read the OT lesson,  Margaret  from GC read the NT lesson and Kay from St Mary’s put out the candles on the altar at the end of the last hymn.   It is I feel this ecumenical sharing in the service that helps develop the warmth and friendship among those attending, but importantly adds to the spiritual feeling that surrounds us as we worship.  The encouraging after service comments are appreciated!

The sermon can be read in the section of this website headed ‘from the Priest/Reader’.
