As you may already know James E Sugden OBE died on 28 December aged 71. James was a dedicated member of Gordon Chapel for many years before moving to live in the Borders. James worked tirelessly for and was a great asset to Gordon Chapel.
A service to celebrate his life was held at St Cuthbert’s Scottish Episcopal Church, Hawick, on Thursday, 11 January.
This morning I received a telephone call from Rev John Evans a past priest in Gordon Chapel, who attended the Service. He thought that we would like to know that the service reflected very well on the life of James. The very large church was packed to over-flowing and the large marquee outside was also full. People came from all over the world to attend the service and Prince Charles, being unable to attend sent his apologies.
Whilst we were speaking on the telephone, Rev John asked that I pass on his regards and best wishes to all in Gordon Chapel. He is now in his 80’s and still very active, taking services on both sides of the Border.
