The ‘Lift Off’ Concert on Friday evening was a great success. Held in Bellie Church which was full. Michael welcomed everyone and got the entertainment off to rousing start.
The wonderful children’ group ‘Take Note’ started off – they really enjoyed themselves and got us all into the spirit of things! Rev Seoras joined in with his guitar, and Denise had us all trying to do the actions for one of them, it was hilarious!
Next was the Milne’s High School Fiddle Group, led by Alexander Davidson, getting our feet tapping with the jigs, and bringing tears to our eyes with the quieter, more reflective tunes, then waking us up again with cracking reels.
A great bun fight then ensued, with mountains of food being demolished in seconds by hoards of small ( and larger) folk!
The second half started with Rockset choir belting out some Abba, and after a selection of older and more modern tunes, we managed to get folk to join in with Under the Boardwalk at the end.
And then WOW! The Milne’s Hight School Jazz Band were awesome! There were some really breathtaking solos at various points in each number, on French horn, saxophone, trumpet and euphonium. The band played amongst other things Green Onions, Sway, the Bond tune Skyfall ( complete with fabulous soloist vocals) and ending on a high with Stevie Wonder’s Superstition.
It was a really fun night, and everyone seemed to love it.
I must say how terrific the support was from everyone in the three churches in providing baking, giving encouragement and in bringing friends and family to join in the fun. It was a real community event, and I hope there will be many more.
Our thanks are due to Amy and all those who rallied to her support.
So far I understand that about £1000 was raised so well done everyone.
